Hello folks! Back and #reportinglivefrom Caracas. First I would like to apologize to my followers for not keeping you updated on the beginning of the season. Good news is our team is looking really good and we are sitting at 3-0. The first game of the season was special. In front of a packed house of 9,000 fans, the team received their championship rings and I finally got introduced to the Cocodrilos family as Tayron Thomas aka Kangaroo (Canguro in Spanish) We beat our opponents by 20pts the first game then 50pts the second game. Individually I averaged 15pts, which is decent since I haven’t played a full game yet. I got about 20mins of court time in those first two outings.
It was our first test of the season and we passed. The organization has made it very easy for us to perform on the road. Instead of taking buses like every other team we fly to our destinations, always leave the day before, and stay in the best hotels. When we arrived in Maracaibo, I realized we are treated like the Beatles and Duke at the same time. I say this because every where we go people want pictures, autographs, clothing etc. But once we step on the court everyone in Venezuela except our fans want to see us lose. The road trips will be hectic for us all year long but it’s cool because as players we can handle it and we enjoy it as well. We won the game by only 5pts which we weren’t happy about but a win is a win. Individually I played ok. Had 16pts with 4 of them in the last minute of the game giving us a 90-86 lead. I also got to defend the league leading scorer for the past three years. He had 20pts but it took him 21 shots to do it, #NoBueno. Well until next time I’ll leave you with this, “Successful programs consist of people working hard, working together, while never worrying about who gets the credit.”– Coach Don Meyer
