You have believed in us, supported us, and have given us the tools to carry forth our mission to develop, empower, and encourage future generations. What started as a simple idea, has become a very powerful reality and we have you to thank for it.

Many have seen the news, read the paper, and realized the word is finally out. Carrying on the tradition that through Hard Work, Sacrifice, and the Belief in oneself anything is possible, this family, our HSB family, has started a groundbreaking initiative to forever change the athletic and educational landscape for children throughout this great state.

Knowing full well that you, the parents, players, and supporters that believed in us from the beginning, have been the catalyst behind all of this, both Michael, myself, and the rest of the HSB team, would like to extend a very heart felt invitation and welcome your attendance at our upcoming September 12th event. Featuring celebrities, dignitaries, and an expansive list of decorated professional athletes, the evening will certainly be one you will not want to miss.

Be amongst the first to hear project details, including its amenities, global and economic impact, and most importantly, how SPI will build a brighter tomorrow for all of Idaho’s children.

Many have expressed their plans to attend, however, with all of the recent press and media coverage, many of the tickets and tables have already been spoken for. Again none of this would have been possible without you, and we hope you can join. Please purchase your tickets before it is too late by visiting https://sportsplex.afrogs.org/events/view/index.html?event_id=190&tickets=1I. Thanks again and look forward to sharing the facilities mission, vision, and purpose with all of you on the 12th.

Fit For A King:  Big Night Lands Harris Back On Top!

Another week, another win, and another award for American Mike Harris.  Leading his first place Lions (17-8) to anther easy victory, the thirty-year-old forward put up 34 points and 9 rebounds in just 24 minutes of game, while shooting an impressive 12-16 from the field (75%).  Continuing to impress upon league officials, rival coaches, and BSN basketball fans world-wide, Harris was awarded Puerto Rico’s top performance honors for the second time this season.

Back-to-back MVP?  Seems likely.  Once again amongst the leagues best in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage, the Texas native is all but destined for the leagues most coveted individual award.  Alone in first place and recently reunited with NBA veteran and former teammate Ike Diogu, it appears Leones may have more than just an MVP on their hands.  Returning to action tomorrow night against 6th ranked Santurce, stay tuned for more from the Lions and their King as they move ever closer to the clubs 13th BSN Championship.  Stay tuned!

In The News:  Braimoh New Zealand’s Best For Second Straight Week!

Nigerian-American Suleiman Braimoh is living proof that sometimes you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.  Waived by Japan’s Nigita Albirex in late February, the 24-year-old returned home to Houston, Texas, with an uncertain future.  Eight weeks and close to eight thousand miles later, the 6’8 forward is New Zealand’s top performer, torching rival defenders and turning some heads in the process.  An absolute force to reckoned with, Braimoh has dropped back-to-back thirty point games, finding his stride and leading seventh ranked Taranaki MA to another decisive victory.  Adding 30 points and 21 rebounds in round 5, followed by Saturday’s 35 point and 15 rebound round 6 thrashing, Braimoh was awarded the leagues top honors for the second straight week.  Improving literally ever time he steps on the floor, exciting teammates, followers, and fans world-wide, it appears thousands are waiting anxiously to see what “Magnificent Su” will do next.  Back in action Saturday night, stay tuned!

BSN Update – American Forward Mike Harris Leads Ponce Back On Top!

With a 41 point performance, BSN Player of the Week award, and a five-game winning streak under his belt, forward Mike Harris and his Lions have picked up where they left off last season – on top!  Ponce’s king of the hardwoods, the 6’6 American continues to be a force to be reckoned with, asserting his dominance all over the BSN and rival defenders.

Off to another MVP start, Harris is making a strong case to retain the title he earned back in 2013.  Amongst the leagues best in scoring (19.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.8 rpg) for the second straight season, there appears to be no let down in sight. Widely recognized for his outstanding leadership, tenacity, and all out commitment to excellence, it is Harris’s electricity that keeps the Juan “Pachín” Vicén Auditoriums 12,000 strong up on their feet each and every night.

With the recent return of point guard Carlos Rivera from league play in Mexico, the Lions appear to be back at full strength and operating on all cylinders.  It is still early, but locked in a two way tie with last year Champions, the Piratas de Quebradillas, a heated finals rematch could be in the works. Returning to action tonight against 8th ranked Bayamon, I know all of Ponce nation is looking forward to a potential 6th straight victory and another big night from their “King”. Stay tuned for more to come!

The King Of Ponce – Mike Harris Continues Puerto Rico’s #1!

Only 30 minutes has passed since Ponce’s 92-66 victory over visiting Guaynabo, but to the hundreds of fans, followers, and supporters that still remain inside the Juan “Pachín” Vicéns Auditorium it seems like an eternity. The fans sit patiently waiting in eager anticipation, hoping to catch a glimpse, shake hands, or snap a quick picture with the club’s biggest star. “Harris” as they call him, is the team’s leader, undeniable fan favorite, and to the thousands of Ponce faithful, the Lions best chance at capturing the franchises thirteenth Championship.

In the blink of an eye, the scene quickly shifts from electric to chaotic as a loud energetic voice can be heard coming from the far side of the auditorium. “Harris! It’s Harris,” they scream as they rush towards him. Wearing a colorful black t-shirt, baggy pair of shorts, and some low cut sneakers, perhaps the most noticeable piece of attire the 29-year-old seems to be dawning is a massive water cannon (squirt gun) draped tightly across his chest. His intended target is not the fans, but a pair of rookies that seem to have misplaced their bright pink Barbie backpacks that Harris bought them for the season. “Where are your backpacks,” Harris jokes grinning ear to ear. “I know you aren’t walking around without those backpacks.”

As observed by many, there are few with more professionalism and class both on and off the court than Harris, but the American is also known for his lighter side. His energy is contagious, he his always laughing, and as one onlooker noted, “I don’t think I have ever seen him not smiling.” He certainly has much to be smiling about.

For years now, the forward has dominated literally every league he has played in, traveling the world and continuing to build his reputation as an NBA and international star. Most impressive of all, are not his overall numbers, but his overwhelming ability to remain amongst the leagues best while making those around him better. “Mike is a great leader,” shared current Head Coach Nelson Colon. “His impact on his teammates is outstanding and in eight years of coaching he is one of the best players I have had the privilege to work with.”

Currently the Baloncesto Superior Nationals (BSN’s) top scorer (20.1 ppg), rebounder (10.9 rpg), and most consistent shooter (55%), Harris is without question the heavy frontrunner for league MVP. His impressive run in Puerto Rico follows another stand-out season in China’s CBA, where he remained throughout the year a leader in nearly every statistical category, as he has done so many times before.

With a lot of movement forthcoming in the NBA’s free agency period, and a fairly weak draft class, Harris seems an obvious fit for any team looking for valuable production at a bargain price. His strong athletic frame, soft shooting touch, and aggressive nature offer several teams, especially those with cap issues, exceptional veteran leadership with solid production on both ends of the floor. “Mike Harris is a legit candidate for a guaranteed deal next season,” offered one NBA source. “He has proven time and again that he can perform at the highest level and he deserves to be in this league.”

Recently named LatinBasket’s MVP for the third time this season, the forward has strung together a series of solid performances, and elevated his squad back into the leagues top spot. Alone in first place, Coach Colon, the fans, and Harris, Ponce’s “unofficial” King, still have much to accomplish as the Lions return to action tonight against 5th ranked Arecibo. Stay tuned!

Jiangsu’s Newest Dragon – Mike Harris Is Making His Mark In China’s CBA

Jiangsu Province, China – Home to many of the world’s top electronics, chemical, and textile manufacturers, since 2006, Jiangsu has become one of China’s largest exporters and recipients of foreign investment.  Known as a hot spot for major economic growth, as of late, the Chinese coastal province has received some significant regional attention not for one of its exports but rather a very large import.  At 6’6, NBA veteran and Rice University graduate Mike Harris is not only making his mark this year in China’s CBA, he’s turning some heads doing it.

Following his release by the Minnesota Timberwolves in early November, the Jiangsu Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Associations (CBA) Southern Division, made Harris an offer he couldn’t refuse.  Traveling more than 7,000 miles from Houston, Texas to China’s eastern coast,  Harris has made an immediate and significant impact.  Though nursing an injured ankle, Harris is putting up numbers amongst the leagues best, averaging over 33 points and 16 rebounds a contest while shooting an impressive 58% from the field and 100% from the charity stripe (20-20).

Joined by NBA veteran and former Phoenix Suns Center Garret Siler, the Dragons have started the season 1-3, getting a big win today (111-95) against higher ranked Fujian QB.  Continuing to recover and grow with his new squad, it will be interesting to see how far the American swingman can take the Dragons, which finished amongst the leagues worst just a year ago.  I think it’s safe to say things are looking brighter in Jiangsu.

“The Opportunity God & Hard Work Have Provided . . .” – Coach 2P’s Checks In

Like many of you, I have been keeping tabs on the always animated and energetic Coach 2P’s, still doing big things in Romania. Just got this Facebook message and thought I would share. Enjoy!

“Coach 2P’s #reportinglivefrom (in my Tayron voice) Romania where I am three games into what’s looking like a very competitive season. My team is 2-1, losing the season opener in close game to a predicted final four team. I played ok, but fouled out a minute into the fourth quarter. It was tough to watch, knowing I couldn’t get out there and help us win. We won our next two games and I played well in both, controlling the game on all ends of the floor, dishing out 16 assist with 35 points to go along with them. Overall life is good and I’m doing well, enjoying and making the best of the opportunity God and Hard Work have provided for me. Thanks guys, hope all is well, and best of luck to all those campers out there getting ready for their own upcoming seasons. Keep up the good work!”
