Train With Basketball Pros In Pocatello!

HSB & The MEC Team Up For Summer Basketball Camp

For most young men and women, meeting a professional basketball player would be the opportunity of a lifetime.  How about getting to train with one?  Just out, HSBCAMPS, America’s fastest growing youth basketball initiative and the MEC in Pocatello, have officially announced their partnership to bring young players of all ages and abilities face-to-face with the pros.

The HSBCAMPS Morning Clinic and Day Camp are geared towards teaching and developing the fundamentals of basketball for boys and girls in elementary, middle and high school grades. The Morning Clinic is open to youth in grades K through two. The Day Camp is open to youth in grades three through 12. From team competitions to individual contests, players will participate in fun instructional work, under the direction of the HSBCAMPS staff, comprised of collegiate and professional coaches and players.

“This will be our first trip to Pocatello and we could not be happier to have found a partner in the MEC,” explains Carson Sofro, HSBCAMPS Founder.  “We have had a lot of participants from Eastern Idaho attend our camps over the years, and are very excited to be able to provide them something closer to home.”  HSBCAMPS prides itself as a youth basketball program that “gives back”, donating a portion of every programs proceeds to schools and non-profits within each of the communities they serve.  With more than $400,000 raised to date, HSBCAMPS stands firm in its commitment to provide every child, regardless of age or income, with an opportunity to attend.

“Idaho is where this program began in 2007, and it is where I grew up,” shared Sofro.  “Giving these kids the opportunity to train one-on-one with actual pro’s from all over the country and around the world is what this program is all about and we look forward to doing this year after year.”  In addition to Pocatello, the globally expanding youth basketball camp will also be serving up high scoring experiences throughout Idaho, Washington, Utah, Oregon, and Puerto Rico.  To register for one of HSBCAMPS youth basketball programs or for more information, visit www.hsbcamps.com.

New For 2017 – HSB’s 5-On-5 Invitational Draft Camp!

The pro-experience – it is something most aspiring basketball players dream of. An opportunity to be drafted and play at some of the highest levels. With less than 100 lucky men and women globally making the jump each year, it is a dream few players will ever experience . . . that is until now.

New for 2017, HSB’s 5-On-5 Invitational Draft Camp in Meridian offers advanced boys and girls (grades 6th-9th) an intense ‘pro-styled’ combine and draft experience. Modeled after the NBA & WNBA’s actual draft process, participants will transition through a series of combine drills, partake in a live player draft, and help their team compete for the camps coveted Championship Cup. Every participant will receive extensive evaluation and instruction on all aspects of the game, including intense one-on-one individualized and team training from our world-class staff. Also included; HSB reversible jersey, VIP Shoe & Apparel Deal from Eastbay, and a variety of other giveaways provided by our sponsors.

With availability limited to ONLY THE FIRST 100 REGISTRATIONS, we anticipate space in this session will go quickly.

Camp Highlights

  • Combine Drills
  • Player Draft
  • Pool Play
  • Tournament Play
  • All-Star Game
  • Team & Individual Awards

Please Note – This camp is deemed “Invitational” in the sense that it is not available for general admission like our regular Day Camps. This session is available to EXPERIENCED BASKETBALL PLAYERS ONLY (PLEASE NO BEGINNERS)! All participants must be comfortable dribbling, shooting, passing, and defending in an intense game environment. If you register your child for this session and they are found unable to compete at the appropriate level by our staff, they will kindly be asked to leave and your registration fees may be subject to forfeiture. This policy will be strictly enforced and has been implemented solely to ensure the session can be run at the highest level possible. This session will be co-ed and girls who are comfortable playing with boys are encouraged to attend. Girls will be able to use a 28.5 basketball for the combine portion of camp but game play will use a full sized ball. Any questions or concerns please contact us at info@hsbcamps.com.

Cope: Surviving In The NBA

I had the honor of playing with Chris Copeland in Colorado in 2006. I would encourage any player struggling with doubt, frustration, or fear of inadequacy to take a couple minutes to watch this video. His story is a testament to those in pursuit of a dream that everyone says is impossible.

Coach Cliff Opens New York Stock Exchange!

Great story from Channel 9 WAFB and Anchor Donna Britt, first published 10/14/2016.  Big congrats to Coach Cliff.  Keep up the good work!

Houston, TX – When the New York Stock Exchange opened for business Friday, October 14, a native of Zachary helped ring the opening bell.

Cliff Ghoram works in Houston for Constellation, a subsidiary of energy giant Exelon. He stood up on the balcony above the Stock Exchange’s opening tally along with the CEOs of Constellation and Exelon. To hear him tell it, Ghoram is a simple rank and file worker.

“I started as an intern. I’ve moved up. I’m only an analyst, but I’ve done big projects,” he said.

The email that delivered the news he would fly to New York to be there for the company’s unveiling as a new member of the Fortune 100 list, said that Ghoram was excellent at work, but also invested a big piece of his free time volunteering.

“I actually met the CEO at one of the volunteer events. He asked about me and said I was always taking the  initiative, asking questions,” Ghoram said.

Ghoram’s mother back in Zachary, Denise Ghoram, said on Wednesday, she will try to watch the opening bell at the stock market on the internet. She took the day off for this, that’s how excited she is!

“I wanted to say about when I read how he was chosen because of his work and his volunteerism,” said Denise, who knows what her son has done in the community. “He’s come back home last Christmas and he put on a basketball clinic, the kids came and he did it out of his pocket, waved charges, fed everybody, gave them skills. He had motivational talks and then he had some shoes, that he let the kids pick from the pile and take home.”

He has also mentored youth at their church in Zachary, New Pilgrim Baptist.

Denise said she overheard one thing that stuck with her that he said to the youth at church: “Do what you need to do, when you need to do it, whether you like it or not.”

Ghoram, who played basketball at Rice University in Houston on scholarship, played for international teams.

“After Rice, I played overseas, in Chile. I got my start in Europe in Milan. My last swing at it was in Nova Scotia,” Ghoram said. “Then I ended up going back to school. I coached in St. John’s in Houston and went back to school. Then went for my masters at Texas A&M.”

Cliff Ghoram got his masters in Maritime Administration and Logistics. In fact, he was one of the first to finish in the fledgling program at A&M. His piece of corporate analysis was outstanding and A&M entered him in international competition.

Competing against 20 other students from around the world, Ghoram placed in the top three for the International Maritime industry group in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia and went on to present again in another industry symposium in Tasmania, Australia.

Shining in maritime circles, Ghoram had been working as an intern at Exelon’s Constellation energy group headquarters in Houston. When they realized he was finished with school Constellation hired him.

Energy, natural gas, and utilities must draw from the same skills that maritime does, but it’s Ghoram’s continuing volunteer work in Houston that sets him apart from other workers, perhaps as a leader of tomorrow.

Ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange is but a step in this 28-year-old’s future. However, you can expect he’s gonna make his name his way.
