The Session Everyone’s Talking About – 5-On-5 Draft Camp FAQ’s!

It’s the session everyone is talking about and everyone wants to attend. Piggybacking off the success of last years Draft Invitational in July, our team is thrilled to announce we have added three additional 5-On-5 Draft Camps to the 2018 summer line-up.  Locations include Meridian, Idaho; Bend, Oregon; and Mercer Island Washington.

Modeled after the NBA & WNBA’s actual draft process, participants will transition through a pro combine, live player draft, short season, and finally help their team compete for the camps coveted Championship Cup. Every participant will receive extensive evaluation and instruction on all aspects of the game, including intense one-on-one individualized and team training from our world-class staff.

Being a specialized session there have been a lot of questions and concerns that we’d like to address.  I think our disclaimer has scared a lot of parents from registering kids that would really enjoy and benefit from this camp.

Here are some FAQ’s to consider when looking at these sessions as an option for your son and daughter.

Can anyone register for these camps?
All of these camps and locations are available for open enrollment with the exception of the Draft Invitational in July.  Like the name, the Invitational is by invite only. With that being said, these camps are not a great option for beginning players. These are very competitive sessions and all participants must be comfortable dribbling, shooting, passing and defending in an intense game environment.

Are these camps co-ed?
Absolutely!  These sessions are co-educational and girls who are comfortable playing with boys are encouraged to attend. Girls will be able to use a 28.5 basketball for the combine portion of camp but game play will use a full sized ball. Any questions or concerns please contact us at info@hsbcamps.com.

Is my child coached by actual pros?
Yes!  Each participant has the opportunity to be drafted, coached and mentored by an actual pro.  Last years coaching staff featured 6 professional and 4 collegiate players and coaches. As reported on our blog, NBA veteran Mike Harris will coach at Boise’s 5-On-5 Draft Camp in June and we are currently working on adding other NBA names to the line-up.

How many games will my child play?
Participants should expect a minimum of 5 games.  This could be more or less depending on the numbers of players in attendance and how well their given team does.

Do participants really get drafted?
As advertised, this camp is modeled after the NBA & WNBA’s actual draft process. Players will be evaluated during the combine portion of camp and then drafted in real time based on that evaluation.

When are camp dates for each location?
June 4th – 6th – Draft Camp – Meridian, ID – Open Enrollment

July 12th – 14th – Draft Camp – Bend, OR – Open Enrollment

July 16th – 18th – Draft Camp – Mercer Island, WA – Open Enrollment

July 19th – 21st – Draft Invitational – Meridian, ID – Invite Only

How do you get invited to the camp in July?
Invites or Golden Tickets are typically given to all players from last years session as well as a series of athletes from around the globe that we have previously worked with.  If you would like to be considered for an invite, please email us at info@hsbcamps.com.
